Refurbishment of Mill Roll Cap - Swaziland

In 2019, we were approached by a customer to refurbish a few of their mill roll caps. They had previously attempted to have them refurbished however those attempts were unsuccessful.

Once we had received the mill roll caps, we noticed that the previous attempts at refurbishment were not done correctly. The caps were contaminated with rust and dirty oil. We realised that we would need to machine away the contaminated material so that we would have a solid oundation that we would be able to work from.

The mill roll caps had been cast and therefor had no true surfaces so we had to carefully clock up each mill roll and had to keep adjusting until we had a true surface would which hold in the lathe.

We removed all the contaminated material, machined a ring which shrunk on using heat, prepared our weld prep and welded up the mill roll cap.

The end result was incredible with us dimensionally standardising the the mill rolls caps for the first time. These mill roll caps have now been in service for three sugar crushing seasons without any issues, and have saved our customer a substantial amount of downtime and money through the course of these seasons.
